:: MEANWHILE... DEEP IN THE HEART OF THE CHRONOSPHERE

On the 10th of December, 2005, some navigators under the direction of M. Jon de Cates, were at work in the great quarries of the Chronosphere, near Chronotopia. While at work, they unexpectedly came upon a Chronocodile jawbone buried fourteen hours below the surface of time. It was the first fossil of the kind that had ever been brought to the light of day. Near this unexpected Chronocodile relic were found stone clocks and carved laptops, colored and clothed by time in one uniform brilliant tint of LCD. The report of this extraordinary and unexpected discovery spread not only all over Chicago, but over England and Germany. Many learned men belonging to various scientific bodies, and noteworthy among others, Messr. Cates, took the affair very much to heart, demonstrated the incontestable temporality of the bone in question, and became, to use the phrase then recognized in England, the most ardent supporter of the "Chronocodile question." "You see, the whole Chronosphere is composed of chronotropical islands." said the Professor.' "But what does this word Chronotropical mean?" To this question I expected no rational answer. I was mistaken. "Follow my finger to the western coast of the Chronosphere, there you see Chronotopia, its capital. Follow the direction of one of its innumerable fjords or arms of the timeSea, and what do you see below the sixty-fifth second of latitude?" "A peninsula - very like a Chronocodile in shape." "And in the center of it?" "A rift through time and space." "Well, that's Chronotopia." I had nothing to say. To the eminent chronologists of the Chronosphere who looked upon the fact of Chronospherical Temporality as Higby-Flowers, Butler, Elliott, Kim, Lee, Kamenczy, Hoffman, LaGarce, Lee, Pete, Tompkins and Wood were soon united the learned womyn and men of ancient Greece and Rome. This system or theoryPraxis, call it what you will, had, it is true, a bitter adversary in VJ Hook. This learned man, who holds such a high place in the newMedia world, holds that the soil of the Chronosphere does not belong to the Chronocodiles but to a much less temporal race, and, in accordance with Dr. Kluge in this respect, he would by no means admit that the Chronocodile species was contemporary with the animals of the Chronospheric time-space.

WE CAN SEE ONLY IN A 40 DEGREE AREA AT A TIME, IMAGE WHAT YOUR MISSING BEHIND YOU.

ABOUT Quaker A/V (Ezara Hoffman ++ Jake Elliott)

Only two things are known about Quaker A/V," said the professor, cleaning his glasses with a snotrag. "First: It is the national pastime of the Chronosphere. Second: It is also the national religion." I cleaned a clump of tingling swampwater off my foot with a leaf and put my boots back on. "I think it is of utmost importance then, professor, that we attend this performance, in the interest of anthropological study. It says here that the skilled and reverent player/priestess Ezara "Abunai" Hoffman and constestant/clergy Jake "Achtung" Elliott, will be playing Quaker A/V at 9pm on the Chronocouch!

:: ABOUT REALTIME

REALTIME COURSE HYSTORY: Realtime is a new course offering in the Film, Video and New Media department @ The School of the Art Institute developed by jonCates as a part of the New Media path of study. Realtime is being offered now for the first time in the FALL 2005 semester. REALTIME COURSE DESCRIPTION: Realtime explores audio-visual systems and performances of live experimental new media art. Artists create, control, effect and transform digital media in realtime using systems created by and for artists. Digital and computational systems allow improvisation, live audio-video performance, and synthesis of complex works and projects. Students learn, play and perform with artware, open source tools and systems (PureData, GEM and dyne:bolic!) and commercially available software (Max/MSP and Jitter). This studio course includes a historical approach to realtime systems, and features use of the Sandin Image Processor, an analog patch programmable computer optimized for video processing from 1971 - 1973. Current praxis is discussed in relation to the earlier realtime forms from early cinema (such as Oskar Fischinger's Lumigraph), video (such as the Dan Sandin's Sandin Image Processor) and New Media. http://www.filmvideoandnewmedia.info http://artic.edu/~jcates
